Colombian writer Nobel prize for literature was born on March 6, 1927 in Aracataca, a town on the Colombian Caribbean coast, he lived his first years in the company of his grandparents.In 1947, García Márquez moved to Bogotá and began studying at a university where he studied law. On a trip to Barranquilla, he met a group of journalists and decided to settle there and completely guide his life to journalism. He starts working as a columnist for El Heraldo.
In Barranquilla, García Márquez meets a Mercedes Barcha, who will later become his lifelong companion. In 1971, he obtained the title with honors from Columbia University in the United States, and when he wrote, he wrote his first works for the newspaper El Espectador.
That period of passionate dedication to journalism will later leave a mark on his literature.
He lived in Mexico for more than 30 years where he died on April 17, 2014 at 87 years of age.
